Russia's Dinara Safina emerged as the latest surprise in Rome's Alice Cup on Friday with a easy 6-1 6-1 win over compatroit Elena Dementieva. She will play either Italy's Romina Oprandi, another surprise quarter-finalist, or another Russian, Svetlana Kusnetsova, the seventh seed, in the semi-final.
Dinara, the 16th seed this year, had only had one win against a top-flight player player before coming to Rome, but since the start of the week she has picked up two more. Czechs won over Russians in a very good dramatic match till in overtime 4:3, the gold goal scored Zbynek Irgl with 2:02 remaining. Najprv si sily zmerali Rusi s Cesmi, kde sa zrodil trochu prekvapivy vysledok aj vzhladom k predvedenej hre, kedy boli Rusi najma v prvej a tretej tretine jednoznacne lepsi, no napriek tomu sa im zapas minutu pred koncom riadnej hracej doby podarilo doviest len do predlzenia. Aj ked aj v nom boli jednoznacne aktivnejsi, stacila jedna chybicka, jedno nevyhrate vhadzovanie vo vlastnom obrannom pasme, prihravka na Irgla a bolo po nadejach na medajly.
