Soccer, Spain, Primera Division, Pick on 29.8.2006: Sevilla vs. Levante

Filed under: English version, Picks — mato at 6:57 pm on Tuesday, August 29, 2006

Sevilla, that are used to be a rather mediocre side, has improved a lot over the past few years. They won the last years Uefa Cup by beating Middlesbrough 4:0, which gave them a place in the Uefa Super Cup, that ended with another Sevilla triumph, as mighty Barcelona were crashed by 3:0. Appearantly, the administration along with the management seem to be doing great job, as they have been very succesfull in their effort to make the right transfers and adjustments in order to improve their squads quality.

In general, their squad is extrimely wellorganized and should be strong enough to qualify for next years CL, which, by the way, will be their primary goal this season. They have bought several new players this year, with Poulsen and Chevanton as most important signings, that can, undoubtly, be considered as serious reinforcements. And, even if, they have lost Saviola (returned to Barcelona), I still see them been strengthened a bit. They ended last season with five consecutive wins (8, if games in the Uefa Cup are counted along), where the last two were against Real Madrid and Barcelona , it wasn't however enough to get the CL spot, as it was snatched by Osasuna, that were better in mutual matches. So, IMO Sevilla is a team to watch in spanish league, as they are confident, as well as, motivated to fight for the points from the day one to the end of a season. Levante, on the other hand, has been recently promoted (got the last promotion spot in 2nd division last year) and cann't be considered as a team that can take points from a strong club like Sevilla. Last time Levante was playing in first division, Sevilla beated them 3:0 in both games. As for this game, I'm sure Sevilla will take an easy win, as well as keep clean sheet. Additionally, I was going to back Sevilla with a EH bet, I have however chanced my mind, since it's an opening game for both teams and Sevilla will be without Chevanton and probably Ocio and Fabiano, so I'm going for AH bet instead.

Sevillas coach have selected following players for this match:

Palop, Cobeno, Daniel Alves, Hinkel, Javi Navarro, Dragutinovic, David, Jesus Navas, Fernando Sales, Poulsen, Maresca, Martí, Escude, Renato, Adriano, Puerta, Kepa and Kanouté.

Soccer, Ireland, Irish Cup, Pick on 29.8.2006: Bohemians vs. Shamrock

Filed under: English version, Picks — mato at 6:56 pm on Tuesday, August 29, 2006

This pick is to FAI cup in Ireland.

Bohemians is the 6th classificated in first league and shamrock is the 1st classificated of the 2nd division. In the last season Bohemians reached the 6th place and Shamrock was relegated.
The first hand of the cup was in Shamrock home and the game's result was 1-1.

Bohemians is in great form last games and they have usually good results home as they have great support from their fans.

I think that the difference of division and home crowd will make big advantage for Bohemians and they will take this oportunity to follow in the cup.

Shamrock probably will promote, but in the cup, they will be out, I expect.

Well, it seems that I have to talk more to the pick be acepted, so I can tell you that Bohemians won to Shelbourne 2-1 at home and previous 3-0 to Bray away.

Tennis, Grand Slam, US Open, Pick on 29.8.2006: Calleri vs. Moya

Filed under: English version, Picks — mato at 6:55 pm on Tuesday, August 29, 2006

Agustin Calleri is the number 28 of the world and has 29/16 as his record this season. He is in huge form. In last 3 tournaments he won one, made the final in other and the semi-final in the third. He won Mirnyi, Ferrer, Massu, Malisse, all great names of world tennis.
He improved his hardcourt game in the last years and now play it very well.

Moya is number 48 of the world and he has a 25/16 record. He played 4 games in hard in the last months, 2 wins against Gaudio e Gremelmayr and 2 loses against Murray and Ferrer. As any spanish his top surface is clay.

In h2h we have 4-1 to Moya, but Moya's wins came till 2003 because in the last game in 2006 Calleri won 6-3 7-6(6).

Soccer, Austria, 2.liga, Pick on 29.8.2006: Parndorf vs. Schwanenstadt

Filed under: English version, Picks — mato at 5:14 pm on Tuesday, August 29, 2006

Schwanenstadt got a new sponsor for this season what allowed them to get new players that have strenghten their team a lot. In 5 games they have 4 wins and a draw and they have the amazing goal average of 13-3. Best defence and attack of the league.
And more amazing, playing away they have a gola average of 10-1.

Parndorf comes from lowes league this season and they are making their function, trying not to relegate. But against big teams, they have lost for 2 goals of difference. They have a bad defence too with almost 2 goals per game.

So I think Schwanenstadt will win and maintain their first place of the league, as their objectif is get the promotion.

This season away results from Schwan:
Kapfenberg Schwanenstadt 0 - 2
Admira Schwanenstadt 1 - 5
Austria Wien (Am.) Schwanenstadt 0 - 3

Soccer, Finland Veikkausliiga, Pick on 28.8.2006: FC Haka vs. Tampere United

Filed under: English version, Picks — mato at 3:46 pm on Monday, August 28, 2006

Game that will play important role for the title, after the yesterday's draw of HJK away to Mariehamn. In case that Haka will win, they will lead the table for the first time this season. Haka is going great during last month, and they are further the best team to the league at the moment, with 8 back to back wins. Popovic is at great form, scored twice last week away to Honka, and there is great squad news as everyone is fit to play tonight. 4-3-3 Attacking formation will be prefered as usually for Haka...

Haka squad : Vilmunen, Kangaskorpi, Okkonen, Viljanen, Ylönen, Kauppila, Fowler, Manninen, Innanen, Popovitch, Lehtinen.

To the away side, this is not the best moment to face Haka. They are mediocre this month, coming from three defeats to their last six games, and from the latest shock result at home against newcomers Vaasa 2:3. Tampere has easier fixture programme in comparison with Haka to the games left to be played (2 times against Kups, against Jaro & away to Honka & HJK). Tampere has only one important absentee for tonight, midfielder Hininen, otherwise everyone else is fit to play.

Tampere Squad : Kavén, Kuoppala, Marchis, Lindström, Aho, Wiss, Savolainen J, Saarinen, Kujala, Niemi, Lehtinen.

I don't think that Haka will lose points to this one at this particular period. 8/8 wins and 2.20 for home win is something special, against a team that is very unstable to their results, and have easier fixture programme, so they can recover.

Soccer, Turkey, Super Lig, Pick on 27.8.2006: Trabzonspor vs. Denizlispor

Filed under: English version, Picks — mato at 4:59 pm on Sunday, August 27, 2006

Trabzonspor who are one of the big 4 made a very disappointing start. They have just 1 point from 3 games they have played. It is a real shock for them as they were aiming top seeds.

But this won't last too long. I saw Trabzon against Gaziantep last week and they were brilliant after Yattara came in. He made an assist after seconds he entered. And Trabzon totally dominated the game. They have missed bunch of chances and was unlucky (and the keeper is to blame here in my opinion) lost.

So, this week I think Trabzon will get their first win. They have a really quality squad consisting stars as Marcelinho, Yattara, Gokdeniz and Symkowiak.

On the other hand we have Denizlispor who are one of the weakest in the league in my opinion. They got only one point from Gaziantep first week and they scored only 1 goal.

Seeing Trabzon getting in shape lately and Denizlispor have difficulties in scoring, I take a 2 goal win by Trabzon here.

Soccer, Finland, Veikkausliiga, Pick on 27.8.2006: IFK Mariehamn vs. HJK

Filed under: English version, Picks — mato at 4:02 pm on Sunday, August 27, 2006

IFK after a good start tot he season are starting to fall a bit and face a tough game today at home to HJK. Theri home record is not too good W3 D1 L4 and they have lost to some poor opposition at home recently.

Last 5 home games:
Mariehamn - VPS 0:1
Mariehamn - Tampere 1:0
Mariehamn - TPS 0:1
Mariehamn - KuPS 2:0
Mariehamn - FC Inter 0:1

HJK are the form team of this division and have won their last 5 games and their away record is good W4 D2 L2.

KuPS - Helsinki 0:2
Helsinki - FC Inter 5:0
Helsinki - KooTeePee 5:0
Drogheda - Helsinki 1:1
Lahti - Helsinki 0:2

HJK are starting to close in on the leaders and have some games in hand. They are no longer in europe and have the league to concentrate on. They are high on confidence are will be looking forward to todays game. I expect a good game today with potential for goals but HJK are good value to win here today.

Soccer, Germany, 1. Bundesliga, Pick on 27.8.2006: Hamburg vs. Hertha Berlin

Filed under: English version, Picks — mato at 3:40 pm on Sunday, August 27, 2006

Will be Hertha the new leader in Bundesliga or can HSV take their first win after the big CL success ? I think the second one is more possible. HSV started the league with two draws but between hard CL qualification matches was it very hard to concentrate in league matches. HSV is not a club which every year in CL play. So main target is ok. I think HSV will be play today better than first two match. Atouba and Kompany are two important lose for HSV but new transfer Mathijsen can start today.

I watched Hertha BSC in both away matches and they showed very poor performance. They did nothing against Wolfsburg only defende the 0-0. Conceding two goals from a Georgian side is not the best too. Home win against Hannover showed us nothing because Hannover play really bad and they lost yesterday at home to Aachen 3-0. I think HSV have better chances for their first win.

Soccer, Belgium, Jupiter League, Pick on 26.8.2006: Cercle Bruggy vs. Genk

Filed under: English version, Picks — mato at 3:50 pm on Saturday, August 26, 2006

Think we can cancel out a win for Cercle tonight, but a draw just might be possible, same logic as in the Mouscron game.

Again no "risk" from my side, think Genk got a good chance of winning this one, but suggest the asian handi.

The qualitify difference between these 2 squads is pretty huge imo, but somehow Genk most of the time manage not to win overthere, or do it there very hard way. Their players are piece a piece all better than the Cercle players at the corresponding positions on the pitch.

Genk have finally made a good start of the season, that's usually their problem, and they're blossoming with confidence at the moment. Especially the midfield is currently firing on all cilinders, with a very strong Soetaers, backed up by left-back Pocognoli, who's maybe the most promising youngster in this league. Chatelle is going well too, and the central duo of De Decker and Vrancken has only surprised me in a positive way. Bosnjak and Vandenbergh form a coherent couple upfront too.

Cercle are a pretty irregular "bunch" of players, I've never liked their style, imo they don't really belong in 1st division. Grnk should continue their surge upfront.
Cercle: Dantschotter, De Wulf, Guzelov, Portier, Van Mol, Grondin, Pinas, De Smet, De Sutter, Dekelver, Slovic.
Genk: Bailly, Caillet, Cornelis, Mikulic, Pocognoli, Chatelle, De Decker, Soetaers, Vrancken, Bosnjak, Vandenbergh.

Soccer, Czech republic, Gambrinus Liga, Pick on 26.8.2006: Ostrava vs. Kladno

Filed under: English version, Picks — mato at 3:46 pm on Saturday, August 26, 2006

After poor start into the season Banik started collecting points and from last two matches they have 100% effect. In last match against Slovacko after not so good 1st half and being 1:0 down Banik's coach Vecera decided to go for all or nothing and has thrown into the fire reserve attacker Zurka. That was a smart move by Vecera since Banik was constantly pressing in second half which resulted with two goals from Strihavka together with early mentioned Zurek and taking all three points to Ostrava. Kladno on the other hand played goaless draw with Zlin which has fulfilled his aim to take at least a point from Kladno in a quite a boring match with few shots on goals from both sides. It's worth mentioning that Kladno hasn't scored single goal so far in the league but Vecera is aware of that and warning his players not to relax against Kladno while Kladno's coach Koubek is hoping they can repeat their performance from the first round when they took one point from Sparta in Prague. All in all, if Banik shows a good preformance like against Slovacko in 2nd half, I think they will continue their mini positive series and snap another win for them. Banik has Lukes and Neuwirth out for this game but they are long term injured and haven't played in last round.

Soccer, England, Conference, Pick on 26.8.2006: Tamworth vs. Exeter

Filed under: English version, Picks — mato at 3:20 pm on Saturday, August 26, 2006

A fixture that jumps straight off the coupon really. I'll take any team that are likely to finish in the top 8 (such as Exeter) at above evens against the Lambs.

Tamworth struggled last year and are struggling again this season. They have the wrong kind of 100% record. 3 games has seen them concede 1l goals.

To address this their manager has once again got 4 signings in on loan - whilst letting defensive "rock" Matt Redmile leave the club. Panic buying like last season perhaps? (When he famously got Paul Merson in who promptly retired!) The fans are clearly unhappy and something's amiss if you're on loan signing number 4 with two weeks of the season gone. One's come from the Conference South, two from Yeovil reserves and a GK from Portugal.!

Exeter are one of the highly fancied teams in this section. There start under new boss Paul Tisdale according to fans hasn't been pretty but 7pts from 9 and just the 1 goal conceded is from a stats point of view. There is a lot of speculation that Exeter's Lee Phillips (14 goals last season) will leave but so far he's getting back to fitness and been sub for the last couple of game.

Exeter should be too good for Tamworth in this one.
