Hockey, Sweden, Elitserien, Pick on 16.11.2006: Frolunda vs. Lulea

Filed under: English version, Picks — mato at 5:09 pm on Thursday, November 16, 2006

Frolunda started so bad the league, despirte the predictions pre-season and the team is very good for the second cathegory.

The table is not real corrrect about their organized team and they have the best trainer of league (Per Backman).

Last match Frlounda had just a draw score (by 2-2) against Brynas, but watching for statistical dates they had the dominion of the match.

Lulea is IMO nothing of sepcial: more they suffered during the season in defensive approach and the wind should be by home side tonight.

Hockey, Finland, SM-liiga, Pick on 16.11.2006: Tappara vs. Ilves

Filed under: English version, Picks — mato at 3:58 pm on Thursday, November 16, 2006

Tappara has a strong home record (7-1-3), more, during the last perfomances they reached (3-0-1) and they came from an away won game over the top leader of the league.

Ilves are standing in the middle table state: they will miss 6 regulars for tonight, according to the latest news of local sites.

Good chances for the home side to continue their good recent moment, overall at home ground.

Soccer, Friendly, Pick on 14.11.2006: Australia vs Ghana

Filed under: English version, Picks — mato at 7:30 pm on Tuesday, November 14, 2006

Fifth friendly in the history of the football federations of Australia and Ghana: 2-1 (Sydney, 1995), 1-0 (Adelaide, 1995), 0-1 (Perth, 1995) and 2-0 (Durban, South Africa 1996). Australia’s last 5 games have been “under 2.5 goals?: Australia v Italy 0-1 (World Cup, Kaiserslautern - June 2006), Australia v Kuwait 2-0 (Asian Nations Cup, Sydney - August 2006), Australia v Kuwait 0-2 (Asians Nations Cup, Kuwait City – September 2006), Australia v Paraguay (Friendly, Brisbane, October 2006) and Australia v Bahrein 2-0 (Asian Nations Cup, Sydney - October 2006).

After the defeat against Brazil in the World Cup (0-3), Ghana has beaten Togo (2-0, London – August 2006), Japan (1-0, Yokohama – October 2006) and also Korea Rep. (3-1, Seoul – October 2006). For this friendly the Australian coach Graham Arnold has to organize a new defense as Lucas Neill is injured. Arnold described Ghana as “unpredictable, hard to play against? and he judges this fixture as an important experience for his National team. Two new defenders might be Brett Holman (22 y.o., player of Nijmegen) and Griffiths (25 y.o., player of Rapid Bucarest).

Debut also for Shane Steffanuto, player of Lillestrom in Norway. Arnold will be the coach of Australia at least until the 2007 AFC Asian Cup Finals as the chairman of the Australian Football Federation wants him to lead Australia to the Asian Cup. The captain of the Socceroos in this friendly in London will be Vince Grella, well-known player in Italy as he plays for Parma and the captains of the past three games (Skoko, Neill, Viduka) will not play on Tuesday. Cahill will also not be available because of the injury he suffered against Aston Villa while Harry Kewell is also injured.

Ghana were the only African National team to qualify to the second stage of the World Cup where they defeated Czech Republic and USA. In Ghana’s injury list there are Illiasu and Mensah but the main players will be available: Appiah, Dramani, Muntari, Essien, Asamoah Gyan, Pimpong and Derek Asamoah. The next important tournament to be played by Ghana is the African Nations Cup of January 2008. Ghana will host the tournament and until this fixture they will have one aim: to maintain the level of football they have shown in the last World Cup.

In this moment of the season the main aim of the players will be not to suffer an injury. A draw is possible as the major strength of Ghana can be equalized by the great number of Australian fans that will follow this game in London. A low number of goals is very probable in my opinion.

Soccer, Italy, Serie B, Pick on 13.11.2006: Bari vs. Napoli

Filed under: English version, Picks — mato at 7:31 pm on Monday, November 13, 2006

Bari real surprise of start season to face one of the candidate teams for final promotion.

Bari is reaching the job of precedent seasons, playing with the similar group of players, already well tested, and counting over a couple of forwards, not so well known, but very lethal for the cathegory (Santoruvo-Ganci).
The defensive line has shown to be very solid and the middle zone is composed from all footballers able to impost the game and to cover too.

Napoli had 1 points in the last home game against Juventus, but they suffered the personality of Juve (decimated from many injuries) and only in emergency state (under by 1 goal) they have founded the best foorball game.
I think that their approach is wrong: they have too much pressure over and the potential power produced less than the best aspectatives.
Edy Reja tonight will start with the fantasist De Zerbi (after he was been relegated in bench for 3 matches in a row), but he will leave out the last top scorer of Serie B Christian Bucchi, keeping only Caljò like advanced forward and Bogliacino to support.

Big crowd is waited at San Nicola and that didn't happen from a long time (probable more than 20.000 supporters): hot crowd, both teams in good confidence for the last results and I guess that the final draw could be the right final.

Soccer, Belgium, Jupiter League, Pick on 12.11.2006: Mons vs. Liege

Filed under: English version, Picks — mato at 4:53 pm on Sunday, November 12, 2006

Mons is travelling a bad period for sure: they are new promoted and they are suffering so much at home ground, where they should make the match in offensive key.

They didn't support the team with some new comers this season and players, that made huge difference last season in 2nde Klasse (such as Dahmane and Cordaro) are normal regulars this year.

Standard started very bad the season: now they are standing in full uptrend period after Preudhomme replaced Boskamp to lead the team.
They can count over big experienced players (Conceicao, Rapaijc, Defour and De Camargo) able to give the necessary boost.
More the attack is well supported by the perfomances of Jovanovic.

Another good proof for Standard to take the AW.

Soccer, Scandinavia, Royal League, Pick on 9.11.2006: Rosenborg vs. Brann

Filed under: English version, Picks — mato at 7:56 pm on Thursday, November 9, 2006

After a start slow in Tippeligaen, Rosenborg completed, in great style, a big ride taking the top of table and closed any argument about gold medal.

Brann Bergen wasted their biggest chance after a good start, ending the season in big troubles and loosing all the advantage points over Rosenborg, all that IMO had hard reflex over the morale state of the team.

Rosenborg has not injuried problems, so almost sure to start with the best regular line tonight and they consider the Royal Cup seiously too.

Brann Bergen came from an away lost had in Stavanger (against Viking by 5-0) and I think they are standing in clear downtrend, more the will miss, for tonight, Winters and Miller, the defenders Hanstveit and Sigurdsson; in doubtfull Bakke, Andresen and Saeternes.

Soccer, Argentina, Primera Division, Pick on 9.11.2006: Banfield vs. Racing Club

Filed under: English version, Picks — mato at 9:52 pm on Wednesday, November 8, 2006

Coach of Racing, Reinaldo Merlo, decided to rest 8 players in this game thinking about Sunday's clásico against Independiente. Celso Esquivel, Gustavo Cabral, Diego Crosa, Juan Manuel Torres, Adrián Bastía, Sixto Peralta, Gonzalo Bergessio and Facundo Sava will all miss this game, 1st goalkeeper Gustavo Campagnuolo will be one of three regulars who will play this game.

Banfield have been disappointing in Apertura, with only 1 win in 13 games (at Godoy Cruz), but they are always solid and lost only one out of last 8 games - to River Plate at home, when they were a little bit unlucky. At home, they are winless in 6 games, but lost to River Plate and San Lorenzo only and I think that this is great chance for them to take their 1st win of the season.

Soccer, Italy, Coppa Italia, Pick on 8.11.2006: Sampdoria vs. Palermo

Filed under: English version, Picks — mato at 8:42 pm on Wednesday, November 8, 2006

Sampdoria is looking to have a ready revenge for all the season not very good till now.
They will face Palermo with the best regular line: at the debut the striker Bazzani (to replace Bonazzoli) and the expert gk Berti (for Castellazzi), confirmed all the first XI and space for Parola in the middle zone.
Palermo will operate a large turn-over: out Aglairdi, Capuano, Diana, Biava, Pisano, Guana, Di Michele and Zaccardo.
More Amauri, Bresciano, Fontana and Simplicio to start form bench.
At the debut: the gk Sirigu, the defender Bovo (after the long injurie) and the young Terranova in defensive line; Munari and Ficano will be the wingers and middle line composed by Tedesco, Parravicini and Cassani; in attack front the couple Brienza-Caracciolo.

Sampdoria needs to have confirm for their morale state, while Palermo has too many matches between Uefa Cup and Serie A to play: that all could be a good chance for the home team, considering that Palermo will have the "second tam" in field.

Soccer, Germany, Bundesliga, Pick on 7.11.2006: Stuttgart vs. Hamburg

Filed under: English version, Picks — mato at 6:26 pm on Tuesday, November 7, 2006

Is it just me but do you believe Stuttgart are a really good price to beat beleagered Hamburg. Past two games Hamburg failed to find the net against very average sides in Wolfsburg & Hannover and now they face a inform Stuttgart with a host of injuries and a manager on his last legs.

The hosts will be missing their skipper Meira and a few other ‘known' names but I still believe they have enough to win this and keep up the good run.

Soccer, France, Ligue 2, Pick on 7.11.2006: Montpellier vs. Tours

Filed under: English version, Picks — mato at 6:26 pm on Tuesday, November 7, 2006

If you check the stats Montpellier is a typical home-team taking the big majority of the points at home.

Their opponents for today are in the bottom of the table and they are in lousy form with six straight losses and not a single point won in away matches.
Tours have three important players injured and too many facts are suggesting a new loss for them

Soccer, Uefa Cup, Pick on 2.11.2006: Waregem vs. Sparta

Filed under: English version, Picks — mato at 8:16 pm on Thursday, November 2, 2006

Zulte started the Uefa walk trashed, in away, Austria Wien (by 4-1): big result even if reached against a team in deep crisis (Austria Wien, at the time of the match, have not had 1 win at home ground).

Anyway Zulte was not been so convincent after that match, backing in Jupiler league reality and reached a modest clean result against Mons.

Sparta Praha, after many changements, is backing to be competitive at these levels: they started so bad in the Group (lost against Espanyol), so they need to have points from this outfield match.

In Gambrinus league Sparta came out from 3 win in a row and that all explain at the best the good condition of the team, more they are used to play international competitions.

Sparta needs to have the full post; while Zulte will play with all the pride possible and they won just the first match of the Group.
